(Honesdale, May 9, 2017)….Wayne Memorial Hospital’s Hospice team is celebrating the 15th anniversary of the department with a spectacular display to which everyone is invited. “We plan to release a kaleidoscope of butterflies in Honesdale’s Central Park at 10 am on Saturday, June 3rd,” says Lisa Grecco, MSN, RN, manager WMH Home Health & Hospice, “to honor our hospice families and their loved ones who have passed on.” The butterflies, Grecco adds, are symbolic. “Around the world, the butterfly represents endurance, change, hope, and life. Hospice is very much about this also.”
After the butterfly release, a service will take place in nearby Grace Episcopal Church at 9th and Church Streets. Immediately following, refreshments will be offered in the basement of the church.
While the day’s events are all open to the public, the hospice team has formally invited all the families it has served in the past decade and a half. Honesdale attorney Hugh Rechner was one of those whose family was helped by WMH Hospice in 2016. “That year, I lost my mother after a long illness. The nurses and volunteers of Wayne Memorial Hospice made my mother’s end-of-life journey as peaceful as possible. They eased her pain and provided compassionate care and comfort at Mom’s most difficult time. Just as importantly, they helped us when we needed it most. I will be forever grateful for all they did for my mother.”
Hospice care is about helping people live life to the fullest to the very end. Wayne Memorial’s Hospice Department, led by Medical Director James Cruse, MD, offers palliative and supportive care in the home or, if necessary, a nursing home or personal care home. The team includes physicians, nurses, aides, clergy and volunteers who spend time with the patient and their families, sometimes running errands or just sitting and talking.
The Hospice Department serves Wayne, Pike parts of Lackawanna and Susquehanna Counties. For more information or to RSVP for the service, call (570) – 253- 8431.
