WMH Celebrates Sterile Processing Week & Staff Milestone

(Honesdale, October 13, 2021)…One of the most important safety teams at Wayne Memorial Hospital, the technicians in Central Services, are now all fully certified. The announcement of the last of the four staffers passing the certification requirements coincided with Sterile Processing Week, October 10-16. This is an event marked by the certifying agency, the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM).

Central Service Technicians are responsible for decontaminating, inspecting, assembling, disassembling, packaging, and sterilizing surgical instruments essential for patient safety. The technicians were tested on their experience, knowledge and skills.

“This team is critical to preventing infection,” said Beth Korb, RN, manager Perioperative Services, “and I cannot overstate their importance to the success of our hospital and surgical services.”

Korb noted that cumulatively the Central Service techs have decades of experience. “Congratulations to all of them,” she said, “job well done!”
