Wayne Memorial Cath Lab Re-Accredited 2021

(Honesdale, October 4, 2021)…The Heart & Vascular Center at Wayne Memorial Hospital, a cardiac catheterization laboratory, has been re-accredited by Corazon, an accreditation agency approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Health. The Center completed a rigorous requirement process that included providing quarterly reports and 24-hour coverage for Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) emergencies. PCI, formerly known as angioplasty with stent, is a procedure that uses a catheter (thin flexible tube) to open up blood vessels in the heart that have been narrowed by plaque buildup, a life-threatening condition called atherosclerosis. In addition to PCI procedures, the Heart & Vascular Center provides pacemaker and defibrillator placement, as well as diagnostic and interventional peripheral vascular procedures.

“We opened the Heart& Vascular Center five years ago this June,” said James Hockenbury, director of Ancillary Services, “and our staff consistently provides quality care, as demonstrated once again by this re-accreditation.”

Hockenbury noted that close to 1800 patients have been treated in the Center since 2016. “Many lives have been saved by the dedication of our staff, and many more lives improved.”
