Honesdale, PA (February 28, 2024) — Isabella “Bella” Herron, CNM, has joined the staff at the Women’s Health Center making her the fifth certified nurse midwife on its roster of providers. The Women’s Health Center (WHC) is part of Wayne Memorial Community Health Centers (WMCHC), a clinical affiliate of Wayne Memorial Hospital where Herron facilitates births in the New Beginnings Birthing Suites. She currently conducts outpatient visits at WHC’s Honesdale site and will add office hours in Hamlin and Dingmans Ferry in the spring.
Christina MacDowell, DNP, CNM, practice manager at WMH says welcoming another midwife is “truly something to celebrate because it represents commitment and dedication to health services for all the women of our community, not only by the care providers, but also by the administration of our health care system.”
Herron, who was born and raised in Ohio, graduated from Xavier University in Norwood, Ohio, with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. She went on to earn a Master of Science degree in Nursing / Nurse Midwifery from the University of Cincinnati and completed her clinical experience at the Wright Patterson Airforce Medical Center’s Perinatal Clinic and Labor & Delivery Unit.
Prior to becoming a midwife, Herron was an RN on the bone marrow transplant unit of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. “I applied for midwifery school after about six months of working there,” she stated. “I loved the patients, but always held a special place for Labor & Delivery. I always knew I wanted to go back to school as well, so I took a chance and luckily it worked out since I love my field.”
Now having relocated to Pennsylvania, Herron is excited to offer “midwifery care with compassion” to women in Wayne and Pike Counties. She says she was attracted to Wayne Memorial “since it really embraces the midwifery model of care along with the added benefits / resources that come with a hospital system.”
The WHC accepts most private insurances, Medicare and medical assistance. A sliding-fee scale is offered for those who qualify. To establish as a patient with Bella, call the Center’s Main office at 570-253-3005. For info on all of WMCHC’s services visit www.wmchc.net.
