Tick-Borne Disease Wellness Center in Pike County Now Seeing Children

Honesdale, PA (July 15, 2020) – When Wayne Memorial Community Health Centers (WMCHC) opened its Tick-Borne Disease (TBD) Wellness Center at 750, Route 739 in Lords Valley, in early April of last year the practice was limited to adult patients only. WMCHC has announced that the Wellness Center will now also be accepting children age 8 and older for diagnostic testing, verification of a TBD (including Lyme Disease) and management of current symptoms for those with a previous diagnosis.

Board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner Harriet Loizeaux, MSN, FNP-BC, the Center’s “Lyme-literate” healthcare provider, has treated numerous adults and children in various stages of TBD in her 27-plus years of experience. She said expanding care to include some pediatric cases was “in response to multiple phone calls from parents requesting appointments for their children.” Loizeaux discussed the need with WMCHC colleague Meredith Hellstern, MD, FAAP, board certified pediatrician at Honesdale and Waymart Pediatric Centers. It was agreed expanded services would be beneficial to the community.

“Children may present differently than adults,” added Loizeaux. “However, most respond well when treated quickly.”

The Tick-Borne Disease Wellness Center is located within the Pike Family Health Center. New appointments may be made for adults and children over the age 8 who are established with a primary care provider. Children must be up-to-date on all immunizations. Most major insurances are accepted. A sliding fee scale based on income is available for those who qualify. Out-of-state insurance verification is required.
