Susan Mowatt, MD, Now Treating Veterans at Honesdale VA Outpatient Clinic

Honesdale, PA (February 19, 2024) – Effective this January, Board-certified Physician Susan Mowatt, MD, was appointed as the primary care provider at the Honesdale VA Outpatient Clinic. Located at 600 Maple Avenue, the clinic has been serving eligible veterans since 2014 as part of Wayne Memorial Community Health Centers (WMCHC). Dr. Mowatt joins Jessica Woodmansee, CRNP, who together will offer primary care and women’s health services.

Dr. Mowatt has a longstanding connection to the Honesdale area both personally and professionally.

“I was actually born at Wayne Memorial Hospital and attended Wallenpaupack prior to pursuing further education,” stated Dr. Mowatt. “I made the decision to work at the VA Clinic as an opportunity to return to the Honesdale area to practice and serve those who have served all of us.” She also expressed her strong belief in the value of a local medical home office for veterans. “This satellite office makes the pursuit of medical care easier for those in need of service, providing a closer geographic location than the primary site in Wilkes Barre.”

A practicing physician since 2001, Dr. Mowatt earned her medical degree from Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, PA. She completed her residency through the Williamsport Family Practice Residency Program, where she would later serve as an associate professor.

Dr. Mowatt began her medical career at the Loyalsock Family Practice of Susquehanna Health System in Williamsport, PA, where she remained for five years as a family practice physician and later Medical Director. Much of her career was spent as a solo practitioner at Keystone Family Practice in Hawley, PA.  During this time, she also worked weekends at the former Lake Region Urgent Care. Dr. Mowatt then transitioned to USP Canaan Federal Penitentiary for more than seven years. She has spent the last three years practicing primary care with Geisinger in Central PA.

Dr. Mowatt speaks of her new position with great enthusiasm, “I am excited to be back and look forward to meeting local veterans.”

The Honesdale VA Outpatient Clinic offers eligible veterans primary care including prevention, diagnosis, treatment and follow up.  Phlebotomy, EKG, and an injection clinic are offered on site, as well as a tele-amputee clinic. Patients needing specialty care are referred to the VA Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre, PA.  For more information, visit www.wmchc.net  or call 570-251-6543.
