New Chair for Long-Term Care Board at Wayne Memorial

(Honesdale, November 20, 2018)…Wayne Memorial Health System announced that Christine Rechner, attorney-at-law, is the new chairperson of its Long-Term Care Board, which oversees Wayne Woodlands Manor. Wayne Woodlands is a 121-bed skilled nursing facility in Waymart. Rechner replaces Jim Labar, a dedicated community activist who served several non-consecutive terms as chair.

Rechner, who has been a Long-Term Care board member since 2014, is pleased to be tapped for the leadership role. “It has special meaning for me, as my grandmother was a resident at Wayne Woodlands for many years,” said Rechner, “The care they provide in the facility is a direct reflection of the work of this board, and I hope we can continue to offer the high-quality nursing and rehabilitative care we have in the past.”

Rechner earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Politics from Pennsylvania State University and a law degree from Widener University of Law in Harrisburg. She has practiced law out of the firm her father, Hugh Rechner, founded, since 2002. A mother of two and grandmother of four, Rechner also manages to find time to serve as the editor of the Wayne County Legal Journal and chair of the Wayne County Public Library.

David Hoff, CEO of Wayne Memorial Hospital/Health System, called Rechner’s appointment a “plus” for the community and Wayne Woodlands. “Chris is very compassionate about what she does and we are most fortunate to have her at the helm of our Long-Term Care Board.”

Rechner will be up for re-election in two years, although her board tenure ends in 2023. Edward Howell is vice chair of the Long-Term Care Board, Carol Mazza is secretary and Stanton Rush holds the office of treasurer. Other members include Jim Labar, Cathy Salak and Linda Harding Buchmann. Christine Rechner’s father, Hugh, is the first vice chair of the Wayne Memorial Hospital/Health System Board of Trustees.
