Mobile Mammography Program Answering a Need

(Honesdale, October 31, 2017)…Since Wayne Memorial Hospital’s Mobile Mammography program began offering services in Carbondale, Hamlin, Vandling and Lake Como on September 25th, more than 50 patients have been screened. “Nineteen of those patients had not had a mammogram with Wayne Memorial in 10 years,” said Imaging Services Manager Rob Brzuchalski CRA, RT, RDMS, “meaning they were ‘new’ patients to the hospital and perhaps some were even new to mammography.”   The mobile unit is staffed by certified mammography technologists, including Tiffany Shaffer who added, “One patient told us she had not had a mammogram in 17 years but now she would come every year because it was so convenient.”  The mobile mammography unit, which offers digital mammography screenings, was funded in part by the AllOne Foundation, the Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the USDA’s Distance Learning & Telemedicine program.
