(Honesdale, April 11, 2018)… More than 100 million U.S. adults are now living with diabetes or prediabetes, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). About one-third or roughly 29 million Americans have Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes. And many experience complications such as eye, nerves, feet and kidney problems, due to poor management of their disease.
Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator Carol Kneier, MS, RD, LDN, CDE is once again offering her popular course, “Living Well with Diabetes” to help people with the disease stay healthy. “If you are newly diagnosed or do not have your diabetes under control, come learn how to manage diabetes and prevent complications,” said Kneier.
The “Living Well with Diabetes” class will cover a basic understanding of the disease, the benefits of exercise and the role of food in diabetes management, menu planning, label reading, glucose monitoring and good care from head to toe. The program will also cover the latest diabetes medications and insulin.
The classes will take place at Wayne Memorial Hospital on three consecutive Wednesday evenings—May 2nd, 9th and 16th – from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. The cost is $50 for a participant and a support person. Financial assistance is available. Registration is required by Monday, April 30th. For information or to register, call (570) 253-8158.
Wayne Memorial has sponsored diabetes education classes since 1996.
