(Honesdale, June 2, 2017)… Over 29 million Americans live with diabetes. Every 23 seconds another person is diagnosed with diabetes. “If you are newly diagnosed or do not have your diabetes under control, come and learn how to manage diabetes, stay healthy and prevent complication” invites Certified Diabetes Educator Carol Kneier, MS, RD, LDN.
Diabetes management requires education and awareness and Wayne Memorial has sponsored diabetes education classes since 1996. “This program will also cover the latest diabetes medications and insulin,” noted Kneier.
Studies show balancing the food you eat with exercise and medicine (if prescribed) will help you control your weight and can keep your blood glucose in the healthy range. This can help prevent or delay complications and help you live a long and healthful life. “I’ve noticed the individuals who received education have better control and understanding of their diabetes,” stated Kneier. “The knowledge gained from these classes gives them the tools needed to better manage their diabetes and live healthier lives.”
The “Living Well with Diabetes” classes offered by Kneier will cover a basic understanding of the disease, the benefits of exercise and the role of food in diabetes management, menu planning, label reading, glucose monitoring and good care from head to toe.
The classes will take place at Wayne Memorial Hospital three consecutive Friday afternoons from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on June 16, 23 and 30. The cost is $50 for a participant and a support person. Financial assistance is available. Registration is required by Wednesday, June 14. For information or to register, call (570) 253-8149.
