Honesdale, PA (October 18, 2019)—Wayne Memorial Community Health Centers (WMCHC) is pleased to announce that Stacy Comers, DO, a board-certified internist, is now providing primary care services at the Honesdale VA Outpatient Clinic located at 600 Maple Avenue, Suite 2, in Honesdale.
Dr.Comer earned her Medical Degree from West Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Lewisburg, WV and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Rutgers University, Newark, NJ. Her military service spans over 11 years, beginning in the U.S. Army Reserves and ultimately leading to Active Duty in the U.S. Army. She completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Bethesda, MD and her internship at the Dwight D. Eisenhower, Army Center, Fort Gordon, GA. Dr. Comers was stationed at the McDonald Army Health Center in Fort Eustis, VA, holding the position of Staff Internist for nearly three years. She was honorably discharged from the Medical Corps in 2018 having obtained the rank of Major.
During her military career, Dr. Comer had the privilege of being part of Continuing Promise 2015. She was stationed on the U.S. Naval Services Comfort, one of a few operational naval hospital ships which provides medical relief efforts to underserved countries, particularly those recovering from a recent natural disaster, war or political crisis. Having traveled to Jamaica, Panama and Nicaragua during her assignment, Dr. Comer says “we would dock for 7 to 10 days at each port, set up a large clinic and take patients from sunup until sundown providing vaccinations and antibiotics as well as performing a variety of surgical procedures.” Comer was one of the internal medicine physicians who staffed the hospital portion of the ship to care for patients who underwent ENT, GYN and simple general surgical procedures. She described the experience as “incredibly exhausting but rewarding at the same time.”
After returning to civilian life, Dr. Comer was employed by Adfinitas Health, a Mid-Atlantic region Hospitalist Group headquartered in Hanover, MD, which also staffs local facilities including Wayne Memorial Hospital.
“Geriatrics and underserved care are my passions in medicine,” stated Dr. Comer. “I am also big on patient and family education,” she added. “This particular position with Honesdale VA Outpatient Clinic seems an excellent fit given my military background and years of experience with outpatient medicine.”
The Honesdale VA Outpatient Clinic has been offering eligible veterans access to a continuum of care including prevention, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up with reduced travel time since 2014. Phlebotomy, EKG, and an injection clinic are offered on site as well as treatment utilizing tele-mental health and tele-nutrition.
