Grief Support Workshops at Wayne Memorial Hospital

(Honesdale, January 25, 2022)…Grief support workshops designed to help people cope with the grieving process will be offered at Wayne Memorial Hospital on two Thursdays, February 10th and February 17th, from 2pm – 4pm. The free workshops will be facilitated by Reverend Susan Treanor, who has many years of experience as a hospital chaplain, and Wayne Memorial Home Health & Hospice Social Worker Anna May Walsh, LMSW, LSW, CDCS and CGCS (Certified Grief Counseling Specialist.)

Ms. Walsh, who co-facilitated several longer grief-support sessions at the hospital for more than five years, said the workshops will provide a safe place where individuals can share and sort out their feelings as they are able and willing.

“Grief is experienced by each individual very differently,” explains Walsh. “There is no right or wrong way to engage in that experience. The process for each person is encountered in different ways.”

She added that, “No one will be required to share, but sharing the experience often helps us understand our own losses more clearly. It makes us aware we are not alone in our feelings.”

The workshops will encourage participants to explore their own solutions to the challenges of living without their loved ones and dealing with the many changes that follow a loss. Walsh stated that participants’ experience will be enhanced by attending both sessions, but “it’s understandable if you cannot attend both.”

Participants may enter or exit at any time. The workshops will be held in the David Katz Conference Center on the 2nd floor of Wayne Memorial Hospital, 601 Park St., Honesdale. The hospital’s COVID-safety protocols must be followed, including masking and entry screening.

All those interested are asked to complete a registration form, which can be found at www.wmh.org.  More information can be obtained by e-mailing walsha@wmh.org.
