Honesdale, PA (May 26, 2017) —Have you considered weight loss surgery to improve your overall health? If so, you may have questions ranging from—which procedure is right for me to what’s required on my part both before and after surgery.
For answers to these questions and more, Wayne Memorial Community Health Centers (WMCHC) invites the public to “Weight Loss Surgery 101” on Wednesday, June 14, starting at 6 p.m. in Wayne Memorial Hospital’s David Katz Room. Lisa Medvetz, MD, FACS, board certified general surgeon of Honesdale Surgical Associates, will be the presenter. Prior to coming to Honesdale, Dr. Medvetz served as the Director of Bariatric Surgery at Bingham Memorial Hospital, Blackfoot, Idaho as well as at Lourdes Medical Associates, Willingboro, New Jersey. She has been practicing general surgery for more than 17 years.
Dr. Medvetz has been performing weight loss surgeries for nearly 10 years including laparoscopic sleeve, laparoscopic bypass and duodenal switch. She also offers the intragastric balloon, a minimally-invasive technique in which the surgeon inserts a balloon into the patient’s stomach using an endoscope. The balloon is then filled with a saline solution to take up space within the stomach, thus, causing the sensation of feeling full quicker. The procedure is done with the patient under mild sedation and the device is removed after 6 months’ time.
“I’ve been able to help so many patients who previously struggled to reach a healthy weight through utilizing weight loss management procedures,” said Dr. Medvetz. “I’m anxious to hold this seminar so people living within the greater Honesdale area can learn more about the options that are out there.”
The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
