Free Presentation on Alzheimer’s & Dementia

(Honesdale, November 12, 2019)… Close to six million Americans have Alzheimer’s, a type of dementia that gradually worsens over time. The majority of those afflicted with this debilitating disease are age 65 and older. Can Alzheimer’s be prevented? What are some of the causes and risk factors?  If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, what are some of the things you can expect to happen and how is it treated?  These are just a few of the topics that will be addressed in a free presentation on Tuesday, December 10th at the Park Street Complex, 648 West Park Street, Honesdale from 5:30pm – 7:00pm.

The presentation, which includes a light dinner, is being offered by Wayne Memorial Hospital, the Wayne County Agency on Aging, PA Link and the Alzheimer’s Association.  Additional discussion points will focus on living with Alzheimer’s during the holidays and available resources and services.

“The goal,” said Carol Kneier, MS, RD, LDN, CDE, manager Wayne Memorial Community Health Department, “is to work together to expand resources, awareness and access to quality dementia care in our area. This is a good first step in that direction.”

Kneier added that the presenters will also be looking for volunteer facilitators and community educators to help the Alzheimer’s Association raise awareness and provide support for those coping with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers.
