Four Wayne Memorial Community Health Centers Employees Graduate Medical Assistant Program

(Honesdale, April 27, 2023)… It was an exciting day as four employees of Wayne Memorial Community Health Centers (WMCHC) graduated to become Certified Medical Assistants during an in person and virtual ceremony Wednesday, April 26th. Tiffany Dix, Carmella Leslie-Allen, Cindy Luyando, and Shawna Timme successfully completed an eight month program with The National Institute for Medical Assistant Advancement (NIMAA) while also working at WMCHC. “You will make a positive impact on your communities,” Betty Murphy, NIMAA Associate Director of Education confidently said.

WMCHC is an externship partner with NIMAA, providing an innovative distance-based learning experience to employees while they continue to earn compensation and benefits. The opportunity is an effort to overcome barriers to the challenge of choosing between employment and education. Tuition assistance is available for those who qualify.

The four WMCHC graduates were among 82 in ten states across the country graduating this spring. Many must coordinate education, employment, and raising a family. This unique program has made it possible. Family, friends, and many WMCHC support employees involved in providing the externship gathered for the celebration at the Hamlin Family Health Center.

NIMAA is now accepting applications for the Fall 2023-24 cohort MA training program.
Applications must be submitted by May 31, 2023. Victoria Purdy is WMCHC’s externship coordinator for NIMAA. She can be reached at 570-251-6542, or find out more at www.nimaa.edu.
