Board-certified Nephrologist Joins WMH

(Honesdale, October 21, 2022)… Board-certified Nephrologist Cyriacus Anaele, MD, began seeing patients at Wayne Memorial Hospital this month. In addition to diagnosing and treating hospital patients, Dr. Anaele has an outpatient practice at the Physician Specialty Clinic at the hospital. His work includes overseeing dialysis procedures both at Wayne Memorial and at outpatient dialysis centers in the area.

Dr. Anaele graduated from medical school in his native Nigeria and then went on to complete an internship and residency in internal medicine at New York City’s Health & Hospital System, followed by a fellowship in Nephrology at Texas Tech University Health Science Center in Lubbock, Texas. Dr. Anaele is also board-certified in Internal Medicine. He was most recently employed in a private nephrology practice in Acworth, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta.

“I’m very pleased to come to Wayne Memorial,” said Dr. Anaele, “the hospital has a lot to offer and it will bring me closer to my sister, who lives in the Baltimore area, and other members of my family.”

“Dr. Anaele’s skill will serve our community well,” said Wayne Memorial CEO James Pettinato, BSN, MHSA, CCRN-K. “Having Dr. Anaele in-house means Wayne Memorial will be able to provide nephrology services to our patients in the hospital and significantly reduce the need for transfer to another facility.  Keeping the patient local means being closer to home for families to visit which is critical to any patient’s recovery during an illness.”

Pettinato added that under Dr. Anaele’s leadership, the hospital will start dialysis services for patients in the Wayne Memorial Inpatient Rehabilitation  unit and then “expand the service to all inpatients requiring that treatment.”

Nephrology brings the number of specialties to four in the hospital’s Physician Specialty Clinic. On the fourth floor, Dr. Anaele will join pulmonologist Sean McVeigh, MD, FCCP, FACP; cardiologist Joseph Laureti, DO; and interventional cardiologists Bradley Serwer, MD, FACC and Halid Wassan, MD ACP Master, FAHA, FACC, FCCP, FSCAI.   A gastroenterologist, Clifford Carrol, provides services on the second floor of the hospital.
