A Holiday Taste-In for People with Diabetes

(Honesdale, October 9, 2019)…If you have diabetes, you’re invited to sample holiday recipes created just for you at this year’s Diabetes Taste-In. The free event will take place Sunday, November 3rd, from 1pm – 3pm at Ladore Lodge, 287 Owego Turnpike, Waymart. Registered dietitians and certified diabetes educators from Wayne Memorial Hospital and the Northeast PA Local Networking Group of the American Association of Diabetes Educators will provide healthy treats to sample, advice and recipes.

“The holidays can be especially challenging for people with diabetes,” says co-organizer Carol Kneier, MS, RD, LDN, CDE, manager of Wayne Memorial’s Community Health Department. “But there are many low-fat, low-carbohydrate dishes for people with diabetes that are really tasty. Our goal at the Taste-In is to help you stay on track while you celebrate the season.”

The Taste-In this year will also present a special talk on diabetes and heart health by Certified Physician Assistant Jennifer Arnold of Honesdale Cardiology. The link between diabetes and cardiovascular disease is significant, according to the American Heart Association. People with diabetes are more likely to die from a heart disease than those without diabetes. In fact, 68% percent of people with diabetes aged 65 and older die from heart disease and 16% die of a stroke.

Information will also be provided on nutrition, stroke and fall prevention from vendors and businesses focused on helping people with diabetes maintain the best overall health possible. Staff from Wayne Memorial Home Health will be on hand to check blood pressures.

Space is limited, so pre-registration is requested. Call 570-253-8990 and leave your name, phone number and number of people attending.
