Honesdale, PA (December 16, 2024) — The Women’s Health Center (WHC) is proud to introduce Natasha Freethy, CNM, as the newest Certified Nurse Midwife to join its practice. Freethy, a native of Waymart, PA, now facilitates births at Wayne Memorial Hospital’s New Beginnings Birthing Suites – the same place she, herself, was born and began her career as a nurse.
“Natasha coming on board as a Certified Nurse Midwife is very special,” stated Christina MacDowell, DNP, CNM, practice manager at WHC. “She is the third member of our team to transition from a labor and delivery nurse at the hospital to a midwife with Wayne Memorial Community Health Centers (WMCHC).”
The Women’s Health Center is part of WMCHC, the hospital’s clinical affiliate which employs obstetricians and midwives to staff the birthing unit. Prior to becoming a CNM, Freethy was a registered nurse at New Beginnings for 14 years.
“The entire team at women’s health has been a part of Natasha’s journey – through school and clinical. We are all so very excited to now call her one of our own,” added MacDowell.
Freethy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Marywood University. She continued her education by earning a Master of Science degree in Midwifery from Frontier Nursing University. Freethy’s practice of midwifery will encompass women’s reproductive health across the life span including annual exams, birth control counseling and postmenopausal care. She conducts outpatient visits at the Honesdale Women’s Health Center office.
MacDowell indicated despite challenges nationally to offer this specialized care, WHC is thriving, “midwifery care is not easily accessible throughout the United States – yet here – we have a team of five midwives available to women.”
WHC accepts most private insurances, Medicare and medical assistance. A sliding-fee scale is offered for those who qualify. To establish as a patient with Natasha, call the Center’s Main office at 570-253-3005. For info on all of WMCHC’s services visit www.wmchc.net.
