Honesdale, PA (March 9, 2021) — Wayne Memorial Community Health Centers (WMCHC) welcomes its newest board-certified Family Medicine Physician, Traceyan Mendez, MD, to the Highland Physicians Family Health Center located at 1839 Fair Avenue, Honesdale. Dr. Mendez treats patients age one through adult for the management of acute and chronic conditions.
Throughout her 15 years as a Family Physician, Dr. Mendez served in roles from Staff Physician to Practice Lead Physician to Chief Medical Director. Now with a decade and a half of experience behind her, she reflects on having “enjoyed working with non-profit healthcare centers,” and notes she has been “seeking to return to that family-centered home setting” to which WMCHC is committed.
Dr. Mendez spent the first eight years of her medical career in Georgia with the non-profit, community-based medical organization, East Georgia Health Center. She relocated to PA taking a position with Penn Highlands Healthcare in the northwestern part of the state and was most recently employed at Lehigh Valley Physician Group headquartered in East Stroudsburg, PA.
Although Dr. Mendez enjoys all aspects of medicine she says preventive health — especially in the area of gynecology “peaks my greatest interest.” She added that she has always believed and reaffirms to her patients that “prevention is better than a cure.”
Dr. Mendez earned her Medical Degree from the New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY. She completed residency education and training at St. Vincent Catholic Medical Centers – Brooklyn and Queens/New York Medical College and received an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Education from Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education in New York, NY, graduating cum laude.
Patients wishing to make an appointment with Dr. Mendez at Highland Physicians Family Health Center may call 570-251-6500. Most private insurance, managed care plans, Medicare and medical assistance are accepted. A sliding-fee scale is also offered for those who qualify.
WMCHC is a federally qualified health center clinically affiliated with Wayne Memorial Health System, Inc. For more information about WMCHC and all of its services, visit www.wmchc.net or call 570-253-8390.
