Three Lab Sites Closing Temporarily

(Honesdale, December 23, 2020)…Due to a need to re-allocate staff to the hospital, Wayne  Memorial Laboratory Services is temporarily closing its blood-draw sites in Tafton and Forest City, effective Monday, December 28th.  A third site, the Waymart Outpatient Center, was closed for the same reason last week.

“Staff shortages due to the holiday and health issues among our employees, along with a rise in COVID testing numbers has forced us to take these steps,” said John Romano, manager Laboratory Services.  Lab phlebotomists perform the COVID tests, along with other tests, and are recording upwards of 1,500 outpatient COVID tests a week— more than double the numbers seen earlier in the fall.

Romano recognizes that the closures, although temporary, may inconvenience some patients, but he points out that the remaining outpatient laboratory sites are remaining open: at the Route 6 Mall in Honesdale, the Pike County Medical Center in Lords Valley, the Hamlin Family Health Center and at the Carbondale Family Health Center.

“We appreciate our patients’ understanding and hope to re-open the three sites soon.”
