Board Members

Wayne Memorial is a non-profit community health system with a board of trustees representing all parts of our service area. These individuals serve voluntarily and are responsible for making key decisions about the current and future state of the health system, including recruitment and retention of qualified staff, patient services, infrastructure and outreach. The Health System is grateful for the trustees’ donation of time, skill and energy.  Board positions have term limits, ensuring the vitality of the board’s leadership and the input of new fresh ideas reflecting the makeup of the community at large.

Kate Bryant, Chair

Kate, a Wayne County native, is the Chief Executive Officer at The Honesdale National Bank (HNB).  She graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and received her Masters of Business Administration from Villanova University. She worked at a mutual fund company in the Philadelphia area for a few years before returning home. Kate joined HNB in 2004 and held several positions prior to becoming CFO in 2016. Her other local community involvement includes serving on the board at the Wayne County Community Foundation and the Chamber of the Northern Poconos. Kate is a former board member with the Wayne Memorial Health Foundation and Wayne County Public Library. She serves as a 4H leader and is a current member of the PA Bankers Health Care Consortium. Kate, her husband Zack, and their two sons live in the Honesdale area.

 

Mary Beth Wood, Vice Chair

Mary Beth Wood is the former Executive Director of Wayne Economic Development Corporation (WEDCO). Mary Beth had been with WEDCO since 2001 and after five years took on the agency’s leadership role. Prior to that, she was an instructor at Keystone Learning Centers. Mary Beth is very active in business and workforce development and entrepreneurial growth serving on the executive committee at Northeastern Pennsylvania Alliance, Penn’s Northeast, and Workforce Wayne. She is also a board member with half a dozen other organizations and agencies including the Pennsylvania Economic Development Association and Pocono Counties Workforce Development. Mary Beth lives in Honesdale.

 

Brad Kiesendahl, Treasurer

Brad Kiesendahl, Director of rooms, recreation, and technology at Woodloch Resort. Brad is a third generation family member, a Cornell University graduate, and returned to Woodloch following college and eight years at another hotel corporation. He’s active in the community as well and serves on the Board of Directors at the Lackawaxen Fire Department and the Hawley Silk Mill Advisory Board. Brad and his wife Jennifer have two sons.

 

Mary Burns Hoff, Secretary

Mary is a business coach and the executive director of Partnership of Faith in New York City, “an association of senior religious leaders working collaboratively to address matters of religious bigotry and injustice.” She came to Northeast Pennsylvania from New York City and brings a wealth of experience in professional and personal leadership. A member of the International Coach Federation and Bard College Alumni Association, Mary is also actively involved locally with the Wayne County Master Gardeners program and the Shehawken United Methodist Church. Mary and her husband Rick live in the Lake Como area.

 

Francis (Frank) Borelli, Trustee

Frank Borelli, a retired senior corporate executive and director, has extensive executive experience in the finance, manufacturing and medical fields. A former Chief Financial Officer and Director at Marsh & McLennan, a worldwide financial services company with a market capitalization of over $85 billion, Frank has also held corporate director positions at both private and publicly-held companies, including Express Scripts, the Interpublic Group, Nanuet Bank in New York and Frizzell Bank in England. Frank was a Senior Partner at Deloitte, Haskins & Sells, international management, Consultants and accountants; Chairman of the Board of Nyack Hospital, a 400-bed facility in New York State. At Deloitte, Frank’s clients included Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital and Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital. For five years, he was a Senior VP of Finance and Administration at Airco, Inc., a manufacturer of industrial and medical products. Keith Gunuskey, Trustee

Keith, an educator and administrator for more than 24 years, is currently the Superintendent of the Wallenpaupack Area School District (WASD). Starting as a special education teacher at Wallenpaupack High School, Keith went on to be Assistant Principal at the middle school for four years, then principal for another seven years. In 2017 he became Assistant Superintendent of WASD. He is pursing a Doctoral Degree in Education Leadership with a concentration in Emergency Management and Disaster Preparedness from Louisiana State University-Shreveport. Keith, is a board member of the Wayne County YMCA and also a nationally certified firefighter. He has been a volunteer firefighter for more than 30 years with the Honesdale Fire Department. Keith is an elder and member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church and has served on the Community Advisory Board at Wayne Memorial Hospital for many years. Keith and his wife Mariann have two children, Emily and Seth, and reside in the Honesdale area.

 

Paul Karpiak, Trustee

Paul is the Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Alice’s Wonderland, a family owned retail store in Greeley. He graduated with a Management Information Systems degree from Virginia Tech, College of Business in 1991. At that time PJ put a civil engineering career in his rearview mirror and returned home to work in the family business. He started as the General Manager and became COO in 2006. PJ and his wife Jennifer work together building the business and, of course, enjoying outdoor recreation year round. In addition to the day to day operations at work PJ and his wife devote their time to family, friends, and the environment.

 

Christine Rechner, Esq., Trustee

Chris is the owner of Rechner Law Office in Honesdale, which she acquired after working as an associate for her father, Hugh Rechner, Esq, for nearly a dozen years before taking over the practice in 2017. Christine received her undergraduate degree from Penn State and her juris doctor from Widener University School of Law. Christine’s community activities include having served as a member of the Wayne County Library Board and as a past president of the Honesdale Lions Club. She is also a member of the Wayne, Pike, and Pennsylvania Bar Associations. Christine lives in the Honesdale area and has two adult children.

 

Paul Meagher, Jr., Trustee

Paul serves as the Chair of the Long-Term Care Board for Wayne Woodlands Manor. Paul is President and CEO of the Meagher Insurance Agency and Meagher Financial Services in Honesdale and Moscow, Pa. Paul is very active in the community serving with several agencies and organizations including the Wayne County Planning Commission, the Greater Honesdale Partnership, and the Wayne Highlands School District Excellence by Design committee. Additionally, he serves as a lector for St. John the Evangelist Parish. Paul and his wife Jenny have four children and live in Dyberry Township.

 

Brendan Murray, Trustee

Brenden serves as Chair of the Wayne Health Services Board“Growing up in Honesdale, I was always aware of the big role played by Wayne Memorial Hospital in the community,” said Brendan Murray, “so being a part of the Wayne Memorial family is special to me, and I want to help in any way I can.” Brendan Murray, a licensed funeral director at Hessling Funeral Home in Honesdale, is the son of Rebecca and Edward Murray, DPM. He is a graduate of Honesdale High School and attended the University of Pittsburgh. Brendan completed studies at the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science in 2003. In addition to Wayne Health Services, Brendan is on the board of the Honesdale Area Jaycees and is an active member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale. He and his wife, the former Megan Rindock, have three daughters – Bridget, Margaret and Keira—who were all delivered at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

 

Dr. Sean McVeigh

Sean McVeigh, MD, FCCP, FACP, Chief of the Medical Staff, is board certified in pulmonary medicine. He is a veteran of the US Army rising to the rank of Major, earned his medical degree at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, and did his residency in internal medicine at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Dr. McVeigh completed a fellowship in pulmonary and sleep medicine at Brooke Army Medical Center and is a Fellow at both the College of Chest Physicians and the American College of Physicians. He has been with Wayne Memorial Hospital since 2005 and is Medical Director of Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Intensive Care Services, and the Sleep Disorders Center. Dr. McVeigh previously served as president of the Medical Staff.

 

Michele Bannon

Michele is a non-voting member and is the chair-elect for the Wayne Memorial Community Advisory Board. Michele is the Mayor of Carbondale and serves as president of the Greater Carbondale Area Chamber of Commerce.

 

Kathleen Brewington

Kathy is the representative for Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

 

Joseph White

Joseph is the Vice President/Secretary for the Board of Trustees of Barnes-Kasson Hospital, a Wayne Memorial affiliate.

Patrick serves as President for the Board of Trustees of Barnes-Kasson Hospital, a Wayne Memorial affiliate.

Scott Epstein, MD, Vice Chair

Dr. Epstein is the Medical Director of the Wayne Memorial Inpatient Rehabilitation Center. He is Board-certified in Pain Medicine, Electrodiagnostic Medicine, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. Epstein treats orthopedic, musculoskeletal, and neurologic conditions.

 

Robert Non, Treasurer

Bob Non has been the President of Pleasant Mount Welding since its inception. The organization has grown significantly under his leadership. Bob says his company is currently the market leader and largest fabricator of miscellaneous metals for wastewater and water treatment plants on the East Coast. Born in Carbondale and raised on a family farm in Pleasant Mount, PA, Bob graduated from Forest City Regional High School and Lackawanna County Vocational-Technical School where he completed a three-year course in welding. He attended Penn State University to study courses specifically to enrich his background in business development including accounting, marketing, engineering and mathematics. He has served as the Treasurer of the Carbondale Technology Transfer Center for more than 10 years. Bob is happily married to his wife Sue and has two wonderful children Brandon and Brianna.

 

Diane Popovich, RN (ret.), Secretary

Diane Popovich is a retired registered nurse who held many clinical roles at Wayne Memorial Health System. Her last official duties were with Wayne Memorial Home Health and Hospice.  A Honesdale native, Diane has been active with the Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary for many years and has served on the board including as President.

 

Betty deMaye-Caruth, Trustee

Betty deMaye-Caruth, PhD, RN, CHPT, RM/T is a longtime member of the Honesdale business and professional community. Betty, a registered nurse and retired Major in the U.S. Army Reserves, owns and operates the Minerva Educational and Wellness Treatment Center, LLC, in Honesdale. She also has a masters degree in education and a doctorate in holistic health. Betty was born and raised in New York City and moved to Honesdale in 1991 with her husband a native of Wayne County, dentist Lawrence Caruth. A decorated veteran, with a successful local practice for many years, he and Betty were always very active in the community until his passing in 2021. She is a member of the Wayne County Business and Professional Women, Honesdale Rotary, the American Legion, the American Holistic Nurses Association, Healing Touch International and Republican Women.

 

Sylvia Kingston, Trustee

Sylvia Kingston relocated to northeast Pennsylvania from New York City in 2010 to join Highlights for Children in Honesdale as a Human Resources Business Partner. She has been a senior consultant at several leading search firms, including most recently Morgan Howard/Wellesley & Partners in New York City.  Sylvia has more than 15 years of experience in senior human resources roles, including four years as vice president and head of Human Resources for Sanwa Financial Products. She joined Sanwa after nine years as a specialist in human resources at Salomon Brothers, serving as VP/manager of global compensation and HRIS (Human Resources Information System). Kingston graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Classics from Pomona College of Claremont Colleges, California. She spent a year in the graduate study program of Classical Philology at Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. A resident of Beach Lake, Sylvia is married to the artist Jim Kingston. She is a member and past president of the Honesdale. Rotary club and a former volunteer with the Warmth in the Night Shelter at Grace Episcopal Church in Honesdale.

Sean McVeigh, MD, FCCP, FACP

Chief of the WMH Medical Staff

Dr. McVeigh is board certified in pulmonary medicine. He is a veteran of the US Army where he achieved the rank of Major, and earned his medical degree at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Dr. McVeigh completed a fellowship in pulmonary and sleep medicine at Brooke Army Medical Center and is a Fellow in both the College of Chest Physicians and the American College of Physicians. He has been with Wayne Memorial Hospital since 2005 and is Medical Director Intensive Care Services, the COVID-19 Task Force, Respiratory Care and Sleep Medicine Services. Dr. McVeigh previously served as president of the Medical Staff.

 

 

Jason Zielinski, DO

President of the WMH Medical Staff

A board certified internist, Dr. Zielinski is a hospitalist at Wayne Memorial Hospital with the Adfinitas Group.  He received his medical degree from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine and finished his residency at St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem. Dr. Zielinksi is a member of the Society of Hospital Medicine and is also affiliated with Regional Hospital of Scranton.

 

Sibyl Rickard, MD

Vice President of the WMH Medical Staff

Dr. Sibyl Rickard is Wayne Memorial’s in-house Pathologist and Director of Clinical and Anatomical Laboratory Services. Dr. Rickard has been practicing medicine since 2005. A native of Honesdale, she went to the University of Scranton and then to Jefferson Medical College, where she earned her medical degree. Board-certified in both Pathology and Dermatopathology, Dr. Rickard’s experience also
includes a clinical assistant professorship in Pathology/Dermatopathology at the Geisinger Commonwealth Medical College in Scranton.
