(Honesdale, May 21, 2019)… The completion date is within sight! Wayne Memorial staff are now being actively trained on the new “smart” equipment in the 85,000 square foot patient tower that has been under construction since September, 2017. The 50 private patient rooms inside the “G” wing include hi-tech digital “whiteboards” that display photos and titles of primary caregivers who visit, special bariatric rooms, as well as interactive TV sets that offer patient education videos, games and Netflix among other applications.
After touring the new wing, Nursing Supervisor Kimberly Smith wrote the hospital’s CEO David Hoff, “I have been rendered absolutely speechless! Thanks to all of your efforts along with the support of the community you have managed to create a beautiful, tech savvy, state of the art space. I am so proud to be fortunate enough to be part of this journey towards great advances in healthcare in the region.”
The administration is equally pleased. “We are thrilled to be able to offer this type of space to our community,” said Mr. Hoff. “Private rooms are highly desirable in today’s healthcare environment. They reduce the risk for infection, cut down on noise and encourage better communication between a patient and his or her clinical team. We can’t wait to show the public!”
Hoff thanked patients and visitors for their patience with parking challenges during construction. He noted that a major parking lot at the hospital, adjacent to the new tower, will open very soon for patients and visitors. Blacktopping is underway and, depending upon the weather, should be completed by early June or before.
An exact opening date for the new tower itself is contingent upon Department of Health inspections, which are scheduled for the end of May and in June. The hospital is also constructing a glassed-in pedestrian concourse connecting the new addition with the current main entrance. A ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony for the entire project will take place after the walkway is finished.
“Thank you….what a wonderful gift!” Kim wrote at the end of her email– “Looking forward to opening day!”
