Tea Party Highlight – Auxiliary’s Annual Donation

(Honesdale, April 24, 2018)… The Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary “doesn’t disappoint—ever!” as Hospital CEO David Hoff put it. This year, despite setbacks like the closing of their hospital gift shop due to construction, the Auxiliary still came through with a sizeable donation representing a year’s work by their 200+ members. Auxiliary President Carol Sturm and her officers presented Mr. Hoff with a check for $125,000 during the hospital’s annual Volunteer Luncheon on April 20th at Central House in Beach Lake.  About $10,000 of that donation will go to Wayne Memorial’s long-term care home, Wayne Woodlands Manor in Waymart.

“We cannot thank our Auxilians enough,” said Hoff, “they are the hardest working and most committed hospital Auxilians in the state, maybe even the country.” This year’s donation was just $5,000 shy of last year’s check.

Auxiliary President Sturm in turn thanked her members for their dedication and creativity. “Our members are really fun, too,” she added, “If you’re not in the Auxiliary, you’re missing out on a lot of fun!”

In addition to the gift shop, which closed last fall, the Auxiliary operates two second-hand stores, The Other Shop in Honesdale and The Other Shop Two in Hawley, along with presenting numerous events such as the annual Mistletoe Ball and a yearly tribute concert (coming this year: The Eagles),  bingo games, uniform and jewelry sales.

The luncheon theme this year was a “tea party,” and floral bonnets abounded. The hospital also thanked its many other volunteers – more than 100 hospital and hospice volunteers and about 65 volunteer board members.  The event was organized by Volunteer Coordinator Joyce Malicky and emceed by Hospital Public Relations Manager Lisa Champeau.
