Breastfeeding Class Offered
(WMCHC) which offers maternity services including prenatal, labor and delivery and postpartum care.
“Although the class is ideal for women who are at least 32 weeks pregnant and interested in learning more about breastfeeding it will also be beneficial for those who aren’t sure if they want to breastfeed, however, and want to make an informed decision,” stated Kara Poremba, RN, BSN, certified breastfeeding counselor and class instructor from the Women’s Health Center.
Class dates are Mondays, June 30, July 28 or August 25 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Hospital’s David Katz Conference Center. Women may sign up for any one of the two-hour sessions which covers the following topics: benefits of breastfeeding, tips for getting started, deep versus shallow latch, how much and how often baby should eat, common challenges, pumping and weaning.
The class fee is $20. The cost of the class is covered for women belonging to Pennsylvania’s Healthy Beginnings Plus Program, a state run program serving the needs of low-income women by helping them achieve a positive pregnancy experience.
