Record-Breaking Mistletoe Ball
“We cannot thank our donors and patrons enough!” gushed Shauna Ridd, chair of this year’s dinner-dance. Held January 19th at Ehrhardt’s on the Waterfront in Tafton, the 72nd annual Mistletoe Ball drew close to 200 guests.
While the theme of this year’s event, “Masquerade,” attracted many attendees in colorful masks and lively outfits, many Auxilians believe the real draw this year was the cause—newborn care. Wayne Memorial Hospital’s New Beginnings unit, which saw 400 births last year, is in need of several pieces of new equipment.
The Mistletoe Ball is the Auxiliary’s largest single fundraiser. In addition to guests who bought tickets, the Auxilians were grateful to all the local businesses and individuals who contributed to the silent auction this year, which brought in $5,729. Attendees browsed a wall of offerings from resorts to jewelers to purveyors of fine wines to local arts and crafts makers and merchants.
During the festivities, the Auxiliary also drew the winning ticket for its months-long raffle drive for Wayne Woodlands Manor, Wayne Memorial’s long-term care home in Waymart. William Penwarden of Honesdale was the lucky winner of a 40” flat screen tv and Wayne Woodlands was a winner, too, receiving proceeds of $2,157.
The Mistletoe Ball is traditionally held on the third Saturday of every January. Plan to come next year!
