The Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary is one of the strongest healthcare auxiliary organizations in Pennsylvania. The purpose of the Auxiliary is to work with the Board of Trustees, its authorized committees and Wayne Memorial Health System's Chief Executive Officer to further public relations, provide volunteer services within Wayne Memorial Health System and its subsidiary corporations and to raise funds for the enhancement of healthcare.

The Auxiliary's 200-plus members operate the hospital's gift shop, The Gift Box, as well as a consignment store, The Other Shop in Honesdale and a thrift shop, The Other Shop II in Hawley. By organizing numerous events during the year, the Auxiliary raises money for the hospital while giving back to the community. The Auxiliary’s biggest events include its annual Holiday Love Lites ceremony, the Mistletoe Ball and Showtime at the Ritz.

In 2005, the Auxiliary's 210 members pledged $570,000 to Wayne Memorial Hospital's capital campaign, Operation Vital Signs, and by so doing, became the largest single contributor to the campaign. They earned the right to name the hospital's private women's mammography and ultrasound center, which opened in 2006, the Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Women's Imaging Center.

The Auxiliary is a great way to meet people and help a good cause at the same time.  As its members will attest, "It can also be a lot of fun!" 

MEMBERSHIP

Qualification for membership in the organization shall be in sympathy with the purposes of the organization and willingness to work towards its accomplishments. Prospective members are welcome at any meeting.

Here are the types of members in the Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary

1) Active members shall pay annual dues and participate in the active service programs of the Auxiliary.

2) Associate members have been active members, shall pay annual dues and signify an interest in the purposes of the Auxiliary.

3) Honorary members have served as active members of the Auxiliary for 35 years and may have the option of not paying dues.

As of 2013, the dues remain $5 a year.

(Honesdale, April 25, 2013)…The Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary’s (WMHA) annual donation to the hospital topped all records with a whopping $92,000.

(Honesdale, March 30, 2013)… “It’s just a really nice thing to get a plant,” said Wayne Memorial Hospital patient Gladys Jennings of Hawley. Jennings was one of close to 200 people who received an Easter pansy recently from the Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

(Honesdale, February 20, 2013)…It was the most successful Mistletoe Ball in the history of the Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, netting $22,200 for the non-profit hospital and its services, including its maternity unit, New Beginnings.

Honesdale, November 27, 2012)... Come costumed and masked – or simply ready to have fun—at the 72nd annual Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Mistletoe Ball on January 19, 2013 at Ehrhardt’s on the Waterfront in Tafton. The theme this year is Masquerade and proceeds will benefit Wayne Memorial’s very youngest patients, the newborns in its New Beginnings Birthing Suites.

Find your new look from a familiar place—the Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary’s Other Shop I or Other Shop II. New and gently-used clothing, from the elegant to the everyday, from both shops will be on display during a luncheon fashion show Sunday, September 16th, at the Forest Lake Club in Hawley.

(Honesdale, July 30, 2012)… Future nurses! Four local high school graduates received nursing school scholarships administered by the Wayne Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Honesdale National Bank. Trina Reese and Ariel Brooks, both members of the Honesdale High School Class of 2012, were awarded Ernest and Margaret Lemnitzer scholarships.
