“When this position came up, I felt it was a good match for me and hopefully for the hospital and its patients. I look forward to working again with the fine staff here at Wayne Memorial,” said Pettinato, “and I anticipate no lag time in getting started!”
Pettinato went to Sacred Heart High School in Carbondale and earned both his Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and his Masters in Health Services Administration from Marywood University in Scranton. In addition to his experience at CMC and at Wayne Memorial Hospital from 1999 – 2008, Pettinato worked at Olsten Health Services in Wilkes Barre and at Mid Valley Hospital in Peckville.
Since 1982, Pettinato has also kept his hand in the pre-hospital world through his work with the Cottage Hose Company Ambulance corps in Carbondale. He’s held the position of EMS Captain for the last 20 years.
“Jim is an experienced professional who brings a wealth of knowledge with him about hospital operations and trends in health care,” said Chief Executive Officer David Hoff. “He is both very much respected and well connected in the hospital community in northeast Pennsylvania. His input will be invaluable as Wayne Memorial Hospital moves forward into the future. We are very pleased to have been able to convince him to rejoin our hospital.”
Pettinato replaces Virginia Fries, MS, RN, who held the position for the past 21 years. Fries, who stepped down for personal and family reasons, will remain at Wayne Memorial in another managerial capacity.
As Director of Patient Care Services, Pettinato oversees all nurses and nursing units, as well as Pharmacy, Social Services and Home Health and Hospice care. More than 200 employees will report to Pettinato either directly or indirectly through nurse supervisors.
Pettinato is married to Janice Pettinato, RN, Manager of Wayne Memorial’s maternity unit, New Beginnings. They have two children and live in Carbondale.
“A few years ago I said that Wayne Memorial was ‘like family’ to me,” added Pettinato, “and now it’s a bit like returning home. It feels good.”
