Dr. Jeffrey Mogerman, a longtime Carbondale physician and former president of the medical staff at Marian Community Hospital, began performing surgeries at Wayne Memorial Hospital on February 18th.

“I believe my agreement with Wayne Memorial will greatly enhance my ability to serve my patients,” said Dr. Mogerman, “in Wayne County and in the surrounding areas.”

Dr. Mogerman’s office hours are planned in Honesdale, Waymart and Carbondale. He has a special interest in problems of the knee, hip and shoulder, and has a general orthopaedic practice as well.

“We are very pleased that Dr. Mogerman is joining Wayne Memorial,” said the Hospital’s Chief Executive Officer David Hoff. “We have a growing patient base, which expands even more in the summer with campers and vacation residents. We are a community hospital, and having two orthopaedic surgeons available—Dr. Mogerman and Dr. David Caucci—shows our community just how committed we are to them.”

Hoff noted that the Hospital entered a similar employee arrangement with Dr. Caucci last summer.

Dr. Mogerman performs hip, knee and shoulder replacement, the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing procedure and ACL Reconstruction, along with other procedures. He performs both adult and pediatric orthopaedic surgery, sports medicine, hand surgery and rehabilitation.

Dr. Mogerman is the only orthopaedic surgeon in northeast Pennsylvania to use a unique system called VISIONAIRE that combines a patient’s MRI and X-ray scans to create a “patient-matched” knee replacement. In this procedure, the instrument guides for shaping the knee are customized for the patient.

“The result is that the patient receives an anatomically correct knee and as perfect an alignment as is currently possible,” explained Dr. Mogerman. “The patient is less likely to experience discomfort or a sense that the implant is not a part of his or her body. We’ve had excellent outcomes with this procedure.”

Dr. Mogerman received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Rochester and his Doctor of Medicine degree from the State University of New York School of Medicine at Buffalo. He went on to complete the Orthopaedic Surgery residency at the State University of New York Department of Orthopaedics, also at Buffalo. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Pennsylvania Medical Society since 1982.
