The retiring members were humble. “I really benefited more than any benefits I brought here,” said Justin O’Donnell, former board treasurer.
Though board members volunteer all their time, the Hospital has term limits—12 years or four consecutive three-year terms. Some members may serve longer if they step in to fill an un-fulfilled term of another member. “It took me a long time to figure out why I was still here after 14 years,” joked Linda Zimmer, who added, “It’s been a privilege and an honor and I thank you.”
“It’s been truly amazing,” said Bill Schweighofer, referring to the fact that so much had happened since he joined the board in 1993. The Hospital underwent several major construction projects and greatly expanded services. “This place is light years ahead of where it was when I started,” continued Schweighofer, who served as board president from 1997-2002. “For me, it’s been educational. All who work here should be very very proud.”
Retiring Board Chairman Helge Mortensen said he, too, was honored to have worked with the Hospital and “encouraged by all that’s happened in my 12 years. We have a lot of conscientious and dedicated people here; it’s been my pleasure to serve.”
